A study was undertaken by Plowman, Stephen and McPake has discovered evidence that children are growing up with children and how they learn in a digital world. The study discovered that children would be heading into a workforce that is going to be based around technology.
They stated that, “UK governments see computers as having the potential to improve the standards of pupils’ school education and they have invested accordingly… children have been seen as a generation that needs to be prepared for working in the knowledge economy, a metaphor which implicitly associates brain work with technology and its economic benefits.”
Children are growing up in a world that is going digital.
It is important that children are exposed to using technology in that classroom, as the world they live in is going digital. Many of these children will go into jobs that involve the use of technology, so they need to learn how to use this technology. An example of an ICT used in classrooms that exposes children to Mathematics in a digital age is Maths Doctor. This program is a great example of how technology can support communication between teachers and learners over a distance. The program uses videoconferencing software such as Skype to connect highly qualified teachers with students creating one-on-one tutoring sessions. In the future this may be what classrooms will look like around the world, with all the learning being completed online.
